30 x 21 x 5
About the Piece:
"On June 12, 2016, Omar Mateen killed 49 people and wounded 58 others in a terrorist attack/hate crime inside Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
In the days following, there was a lot of talk about the mass shooting. Across the nation, there was an outpouring of love and community support… and there was also a lot of hateful speech.
Following the deadliest shooting in U.S. history, Pastor Roger Jimenez from Verity Baptist Church in Sacramento, California stood at his pulpit and delivered an impassioned sermon praising the brutal massacre at a gay nightclub in Florida. He said “I think that’s great. I think that helps society. You know, I think Orlando, is a little safer tonight.” He added: “The tragedy is that more of them didn’t die. The tragedy is — I’m kind of upset that he didn’t finish the job!”
When people speak of the LGBTQ community. I am who they are talking about. I take it personally! I could have easily been on that dance floor.
To my family and friends who support the right wing ideology or who stand silently when they hear it... think again.
Silence = Death."
