Artist Karen Cruickshank has been an artist and a teacher of the arts in Portland Oregon, helping to mold the minds of Portland's young creatives, of which she has recently retired from. She primarily works in oil paint and uses an impasto technique, where the layers protrude thick rich colors from the canvas. Although she started working in realism and tight impressionism, her style has evolved to incorporate a looser impressionistic view of landscapes and pure abstractions. Her work has recently been recognized by the US Embassy in Bucharest Romania where she has two select works on display in the Embassy. She continues to live and work in Portland, where she spends much of her time continuing her craft.
