Letting Go of Holding On

  • Basic Space Gallery 327 Northwest 9th Avenue Portland, OR, 97209 United States (map)

"What do we hold onto? What do we release? We tend to cling to everything in life as if it were vital to our existence. We hold onto people, to things, to relationships, memories, experiences…We grasp on for dear life, as though our lives actually depended on it. Often times, what we are clutching, is in free fall along with us. The lifelines we thought we were holding onto with all our might for survival, are not actually steadfast In reality, the thing we are often clinging to, is ironically, not attached to anything at all. Sometimes, what we hold, is actually destructive, but at the time, we are too close to see it. Sometimes, what we grasp, is a wonderful moment that is fleeting, but we don’t want it to end, for fear of never having a moment such as this again. How do we allow ourselves to let go of these attachments, what no longer serves us? How do we begin to let go of holding on?" - Jo Grishman Statement

"“All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on.” -Havelock Ellis
